SmarKo Health® System

Developed by MCS Data Labs GmbH in Berlin, Germany, SmarKo Health® is an industry-recognized system that leverages sensor and app technology to cater to remote medical diagnostic and treatment requirements. As of April 2017, a functioning prototype exists.

Introduction

SmarKo Health® is designed to operate in a healthcare landscape undergoing swift demographic shifts, skyrocketing patient care costs, and rapid technological advancements. With an ever-expanding array of apps and devices, along with increasingly discerning customer expectations, there is an impending need for standardized, secure inter-device communication.

Core Features

SmarKo® serves as a comprehensive healthcare solution, initially targeting chronic pain management but expansively accommodating third-party in vitro and in vivo devices. This makes it highly versatile for managing diverse patient conditions. Prioritizing data privacy and security to meet European regulations, MCS Data Labs is dedicated to ethical data handling practices. Unique to SmarKo® is the patient’s control over where their data is stored.

Functional Scope

SmarKo® is apt for data sharing, clinical research, document administration, and personalized data analytics, all within the bounds of existing legislation.

Hardware Capabilities

At its core, SmarKo® Health facilitates data aggregation and analytics from devices that comply with ISO/IEEE 11073 standards, thereby enabling remote monitoring of various health conditions.

The system features a smart wrist device equipped with Bluetooth and an embedded SIM card, negating the need for an additional smart device. Energy-efficient with a replaceable battery, the device provides 24/7 monitoring at a low operational cost. Emergency alerts can be set up for automatic or manual dispatch to medical professionals.

A multi-device wireless charger (Qi standard, WPS enabled) completes the hardware suite.

Software Applications

The patient-centric SmarKo® app allows for symptom tracking, medication plan adherence, and real-time communication with healthcare providers. Customizable notifications and a separate doctor’s application for setting notification thresholds and designing clinical studies further enhance its utility.

Communication Infrastructure

Real-time patient-doctor communication is facilitated via video, audio, and text messaging, with both manual and automated emergency alerts.

Backend Configuration

The backend structure encompasses a signaling component for in-app notifications, a SIP server for real-time communication, and secure data storage for patient information.
